A Centre for Learning

The Blake Library is our centre for investigation and research. Blake was chosen as the name of the library to commemorate the first Catholic family in the Kenthurst area, in whose home the first mass was celebrated in the district. They were also the original owners of the land on which the school and parish buildings now stand.

With an outstanding range of quality children’s literature available to read and borrow, it is a popular venue with the students. The Premier’s Reading Challenge is an annual challenge that is publicised through the Blake Library to encourage a love of reading in all children.

Borrowing from the Library

Once a week every class has a Library borrowing session. After they return their previously borrowed books they may borrow some new books to take home. The children must have a library bag (to safely transport the books to and from school). They cannot borrow from the library unless—

  • they have returned last week’s books
  • they have a library bag

Once a week children in K-1 have a thirty minute lesson with the teacher-librarian and once a fortnight children in Years 2-6 have a one hour lesson with the teacher-librarian. The library is open during some lunch times for those children who wish to do quiet reading.
